The city of Tijuana is a well-recognized tourist area situated on the Pacific coast and filled with famous nightclubs and prestigious shopping malls. Located in Baja California, a state in the north westernmost corner of Mexico, Tijuana is the busiest land-border crossing city in the world. And to keep up with such demand there are hundreds of attractions, events and activities, more than enough to keep any tourist happy and entertained.
Most of the residents of Tijuana are workers migrating from other areas in Mexico, bringing with them youth and vitality. These residents have enlivened the area, providing active and independent artists, and a vibrant nightlife. The Tijuana Country Club provides semi-private golfing to the only golf course around, located right in the center of the metropolitan area of Tijuana. A golfer can shoot for the thirteenth story window of a metal tower on the fourth hole. The Aqua Caliente Racetrack in Tijuana once held some of the most historic horse races of the Americas. Visitors can now catch a greyhound race here. Tijuana is also home to some of the world's most popular nightclub shows. Sanborns, a popular home goods store in Mexico, can be found in Tijuana, where a visitor can purchase high-end souvenirs such as Cuban cigars and high quality gold jewelry. Another area of Tijuana that attracts a lot of visitors is the red light district, Zona Norte, or La Coahuila. Anyone venturing in this neighborhood should beware of the merchandise. Imperial Beach sits on the Tijuana River and is a sunny beach side area for visitors to have some fun in the waves. For other outdoor adventure, Tijuana terrain is covered by canyons, hills and mesas excellent for hiking, biking and exploration.
All of Tijuana is attractive and tourist-friendly. However, during this time there are lots of violent incidences in this area from drug cartels that are resulting in causalities from all sides. Any tourist should make note of the current events before visiting this city, just to be safe.
